Wine production on Pico dates back centuries and has shaped one of the Azores’ most remarkable cultural landscapes. Vines are traditionally planted in small plots called currais, surrounded by volcanic stone walls that protect them from Atlantic winds and sea spray. The Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
