Vinho de Cheiro has a long tradition in the Azores and is also produced on São Jorge, particularly for local and domestic consumption. Known for its intense, characteristic aroma, it became part of island wine culture after American vines were introduced to the archipelago following the vineyard diseases that affected traditional European varieties.
