Francesinha
Porto’s iconic sandwich, layered with meats, covered in melted cheese and drenched in a rich, slightly spicy beer-based sauce.

THE STORY
At the table
Created in Porto in the twentieth century, the Francesinha is traditionally attributed to Daniel David Silva, who adapted the French croque-monsieur to Portuguese tastes. Today it is one of Porto’s most recognisable dishes, commonly served with French fries and sometimes topped with a fried egg.
